We arrived and parked up. There was quite a lot of mixed rubbish items discarded in the parking area. As you looked at the building where the main entrance is situated the wall to the left of the entrance a retaining wall appears to have been knocked over giving a poor impression.
On entry we were immediately greeted by a member of staff who showed us to a comfortable, clean booth table with benches. The member of staff covering our area for service was chatting with a couple on a table for about 15 minutes, they appeared to know each other. The service from the member of staff, although a little delayed in starting, was polite and efficient.
The carvery area was clean and well stocked as was the condiment/gravy area. We observed a diner return with their plate to obtain more vegetables. His plate had a lot of half-eaten food, especially around the outside of the plate, as he was serving his vegetables we noted the plate was tipped toward the vegetable area, whilst we did not actually see and debris fall from his plate onto the vegetable pots, there was obviously a margin for contamination to occur.
We were not asked if our meal was good, “everything ok?” We enjoyed our Mid-Week Roast. Small criticisms. The food could be a little hotter. The turkey portion was small (I also had a slice of beef). Both the turkey and beef were tasteless and the beef was tough and quite gristly. The roast potatoes were amazing.
The lamps over the serving area were very, very dusty/greasy. As soon as guests left the tables were cleaned and the area tidied. We asked for a jug of iced water, this was lovely and cold and fresh. We also had a refillable diet coke this again was cold and tasted good. Drinks service was very prompt. The glasses were clean as was the cutlery.
After our main course we decided to indulge in one of the lovely whippy sundaes, again the service was prompt and friendly, and the sundaes very well presented with a good mixture of tasty components.
