Testers Keepers: Topshop review by Aklima Uddin

Posted on 13 March 2019

I went to Churchill Square, Brighton. I was in the store around four hours, and I probably only saw about three members of staff, including one in the fitting rooms. So I guess my welcome was very quiet.

In terms of women’s and men’s clothing, then yes definitely Topshop is very good in their quality. Their jeans in particular I highly recommend without fail.

My best buys were without a doubt their jeans; especially the high-waisted skinny ranges. The sizing is pretty accurate, and they sit very well.

There are so many blouses, either in plain neutral/pastel colours, or printed (snake print seems to be the focus at the moment). I found two lovely long tops and shirts that are both light-weighted; they tie up at the front and back to give a bit more shape.

And the colours can be worn throughout all four seasons. You can wear leggings or jeans, with ankle boots, court heels or sandals to complete the outfit. The Brighton store has a very small section of concession brands like Jovonna London, so that adds on to the variety. There was a lovely khaki coloured jacket that flares out from behind like a mini-dress.

Yes I would recommend Topshop to anybody and everybody. The Brighton store has a ‘Personal Shopping Assistant’ service available which is useful.

I think there’s a misconception that Topshop is all far too expensive. Yes there are products that may seem so like coats, jackets, dresses - but it all depends. Jeans vary from £35+, tops vary from £20+, bags and shoes vary from £20+. For me personally, I shop according to how much I like the product, how often will I use them and if it will last me, so the price I pay for should meet those needs.

I’m very fussy when it comes to my footwear. I’m unfortunately not a lucky feet person where I can just pick my size and buy. I have to go through the whole process in trying the shoes on, walking around in them to test if they will hurt me.

It would be nice to see more variety, especially for ‘wide fit’ people like myself. I noticed there are lots of snake print strappy sandals in red or chrome, or ankle boots with block square heels in random colours like yellow and navy, or just a line of plain black. There aren’t many options to choose from.

I would definitely shop in Topshop in the near future; however, I would make different trips to other stores.

This was an interesting experience because for once it wasn’t just about walking into a store, shopping and then leaving. There were other elements I had to think about whilst being there. I would rate Topshop as a company in general 8/10. However, the Brighton store in specific I would rate 6/10.
